Sports Challenge
Sport’s Challenge is a youth event who’s focus is to reach boys and girls (ages 5-12) with the gospel that would otherwise never set foot in a church and then by extension their parents. Every aspect of the event is focused on loving and engaging these kids for Christ. It starts with the prizes. One of the 1st thing the kids see when they attend are prizes! Football, jerseys, water guns, posters of all different sport’s teams. And all these prizes will be given away to the kids who bring the most friends each night. The activities are also a big draw. The event last 5 days, and the 1st 4 days are the same in that the kids get the opportunity to rotate through each camp: soccer, football, basketball and water. Within each camp the kids will get to play on huge inflatables such as a Bunge run, obstacle course, and joust arena. They will get the opportunity to memorize verses knowing that the 1st place kid in each age group will win a bike and 2nd will get a jersey. Also part of each camp is a time to play that specific sport; compete in drills and show off their already awesome talent. The most important part and the reason that we do all this is the message time when the gospel is presented. Each camp has a speaker that will speak on a different historical Christian. Using this Christian’s life, the speaker will give the gospel in a dynamic and engaging way using videos and physical illustrations. Presenting the historical Gospel and then giving these kids the opportunity to make a decision for Jesus is the focus and the lynch pin of the event. Without it, sports challenge is just an activity. The 5th day is an opportunity to also reach the parents with the gospel. The kids are encouraged to invite their family b/c they count as friends and can help them win prizes. Supper is served and the kids are able to play on all the inflatables. Before announcing the winners of the bikes and jerseys a speaker will give a brief message. Using the same dynamic and engaging principles used throughout the week the gospel will be given and an opportunity to respond provided. As you can see, Sports Challenge is not just a VBS on steroids but it is an event that strategically uses the world’s own entertainment to draw kids and their parents to the Lord.
Student Outreach
Looking to engage teens? Classic Ministries uses the same principles of sports challenge and applies them to a one night event. The event will utilize large inflatables, video games on massive projector screens, and a dodgeball tournament to engage the students. Then during the event food and drinks will be provided as well as a time for a message to be given.
